Physical and Chemical Properties
Diisobutylcarbinol, abbreviated as DIBC, has the chemical formula C9H20O, a molecular weight of 144.255, and is a colorless liquid. Boiling point 178 ℃ or 79 ℃ (2000Pa), flash point 66 ℃. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether.
Application
- Coating/Ink System: Varnish, shellac, printing ink, alkyd resin, vinyl acetate resin, urea-formaldehyde/melamine resin specialty solvents, improving leveling, delaying volatilization, and enhancing film gloss.
- Specialized solvent for hydrogen peroxide production; solvent for petroleum refining additives; solvent for preparing ester gum and paint resin raw materials.
- Substitute for highly toxic aromatic solvent components, used in high-end industrial coatings and metal paints.
