Physical and Chemical Properties
Diethylene glycol, also known as diethylene glycol, is a colorless, transparent, odorless, viscous liquid at room temperature. It is hygroscopic, non corrosive, has a melting point of -10.5 ℃, a boiling point of 245 ℃, and a density of 1.118g/mL. It is miscible with water, ethanol, acetone, and is insoluble in ether and carbon tetrachloride.
Application
- Mainly used as a gas dehydrator and aromatic hydrocarbon extraction solvent.
- Used for synthesizing unsaturated polyester resins, plasticizers, etc. It is also used as an antifreeze agent, gas dehydrating agent, plasticizer, solvent, aromatic hydrocarbon extraction agent, cigarette hygroscopic agent, textile lubricant and finishing agent, anti drying agent for paste and various adhesives, moisture absorbing auxiliary solvent for reducing dyes, etc.
