Physical and Chemical Properties
The chemical formula of wollastonite is CaSiO3, and the theoretical chemical composition is cao48.25% and sio251.75%. Pure wollastonite is rare in nature. In the process of its formation, Ca is sometimes partially replaced by Fe, Mn, Ti and Sr plasmas to be homoplasmic, mixed with a small amount of Al and trace K and Na.
Application
- CeramicsWollastonite has industrial importance in ceramics manufacturing as an additive.In ceramics, wollastonite decreases shrinkage and gas evolution during firing, increases greenand fired strength, maintains brightness during firing, permits fast firing, and reduces crazing, cracking, and glaze defects.
- Wollastonite can serve as a substitute for asbestosin floor tiles, friction products, insulating board and panels, paint, plastics, and roofing products.
- In metallurgical applications, wollastonite serves as a flux for welding, a source for calcium oxide, a slag conditioner, and to protect the surface of molten metal during the continuous casting of steel.
- As an additive in paint, wollastonite improves the durability of the paint film, acts as a pHbuffer, improves its resistance to weathering, reduces gloss, reduces pigment consumption, and acts as a flatting and suspending agent.
- In plastics, wollastonite improves tensileand flexural strength, reduces resin consumption, and improves thermal and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures. Surface treatments are used to improve the adhesion between the wollastonite and the polymers to which it is added.
Storage
Storage temperature: The safe storage temperature range of ammonium persulfate is below 30. Under high temperature conditions, ammonium persulfate is easily decomposed to produce oxygen and ammonia, which may cause safety problems such as explosion or combustion. Therefore, ammonium persulfate should be stored in a cool, ventilated and dry place, avoiding direct sunlight.
Environmental conditions: The area where ammonium persulfate is stored should avoid the influence of fire, heat and humid environment.
