Physical and Chemical Properties
Appearance: White crystalline powder/colorless transparent crystals, odorless
• Density: 1.73 g/cm³, melting point 741°C (after dehydration), boiling point 1575°C (decomposition)
• Solubility: Freely soluble in water (aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, pH≈9.2-9.6), slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in acetone
• Properties: Stable at room temperature; readily loses crystalline water upon heating to form anhydrous borax; readily absorbs moisture and caking; exhibits chelating, fluxing, preservative, and flame-retardant properties; non-flammable and non-explosive; low toxicity; mildly irritating to skin and mucous membranes
Application
• Glass Manufacturing: A fluxing agent for photovoltaic glass, optical glass, and glass bottles/containers, lowering melting temperatures while enhancing glass transparency and heat resistance;
• Ceramics Industry: Firing aid for ceramic bodies and glaze brightener, optimizing sintering effects to enhance ceramic luster and hardness;
• Electroplating/Metal Processing: Electroplating chelating agent, stabilizing bath pH to improve uniformity and adhesion of nickel/copper/gold plating layers;
• Flame Retardants: Synergistic flame retardant when blended with boric acid for plastics, rubber, and textiles, enhancing fire resistance;
• Other Industries: Water treatment softener, adhesive curing agent, paper sizing agent, rubber vulcanization accelerator.
Storage
1. Store in a sealed container within a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from humid environments (core protection against moisture absorption and caking). Maintain warehouse relative humidity below 60%.
2. Store separately from strong acids, oxidizing agents, and food-grade chemicals. Strictly prohibit mixed storage. Avoid contact with acids to prevent reactions that generate boric acid.
3. Use moisture-resistant packaging (laminated woven bags/ton bags + PE inner liner). Store elevated off the ground and walls (≥10cm clearance) to prevent dampness.
3.Store at ambient temperature without temperature control. Unopened shelf life: 12 months. Use promptly after opening and reseal immediately.
